Rules of the Realm Empty
PostSubject: Rules of the Realm   Rules of the Realm EmptyTue Jun 08, 2010 11:25 pm

Rules

The Golden Rules of RolePlay:

1.) No One-Liners:
No one likes responding to a one-liner post. Add some substance. Also, include an playable ending, as in something that someone can play off of. Something that suggests a way for a new character to join in or something that can allow the other character to further advance the plot.

2.) No Thread Abandonment:
If you do not want to be in a certain thread anymore, write yourself out, alright? We don't want your character sitting there, comatose for the rest of the thread, so write yourself out, please.

3.) No chat-speak:
As a literary roleplayer, I assume that you can, to some degree, write and read the English language. Please, please do not use sentences like, "she went 2 c the man @ the table". It is unbearably annoying. Also, please try to use punctuation, as well as some indication that the character is speaking (i.e. "Quote Marks" or *stars* or -dashes- or whatever.) If you don't have perfect grammar, if you make typos and misspellings, that's ok! Really! It happens to everyone. But I swear to the Dragon Ancestor that I will unleash my fury on you if you use chat speak all the time.

The Godmodding Clause

4.) No controlling other characters:
You can only move and control a charcter that you have made up. For example: if your character is Joe and you're roleplaying with the character Bob, you cannot say "Joe walked up behind Bob and shouted "Boo!" Bob jumped out of his chair." That last sentence, yeah, that's not allowed. You could however say something like "Joe walked up behind Bob and shouted "Boo!", hoping to make Bob jump out of his chair." If you and the other RPer have agreed that you can for one post for plot purposes control the character's movement, it's ok. But it is never ok to control another character without the owner's permission.

ABOUT TEMP CHARACTERS:
You'll find yourself introducing temporary characters such as inn keepers, soldiers, customers, family members, etc. If someone else is expressly introducing that character for a specific interaction, that person can control the temporary character. If the character is introduced more as a space-filler, or if no one takes control of a specific character for several posts, that character is up for grabs. ONCE A PERSON HAS CONTROL OF A TEMP, it remains in THEIR CONTROL for the rest of the thread, unless the RPers all agree otherwise. If it happens that you have a recurring temp that's around almost as much as your original character, make a bio for them.

5.) No killing other characters:
This goes for seriously injuring as well! Your character can make an attempt at an attack but when it concerns a serious injury, you cannot claim right away that it hits its mark (unless it is against a temp you control). It helps if the attacker includes some sort of indication of how effective they think the attack should be: "His aim was straight and true," "because she couldn't see, her strike was slightly left of the mark," or something like that. This gives the other character a chance to use an ability, to avoid the attack or to block it enough to make it not as effective. But! Your character is probably gonna get hit sometime! Don't magically avoid all attacks!

6.) NO INVINCIBLE CHARACTERS.
Your character may have unbeatable speed and strength, or cunning, or some other awesome powers, but everyone is vulnerable in some way or has some sort of weakness. It doesn't have to be obvious, and you don't have to state it, but no invincible characters. DO NOT OVER-POWER your character! Every race has specific advantages and limitations and these are clearly explained here: Races

Other Rules

Violence Policy:
Well, it'a fantasy roleplay, there's bound to be violence. So go ahead, chop off heads, stab things. Just make sure it's ok with all the RPers in the thread. You can do all this without excessive gore, or you may have a proclivity for writing gory scenes - but respect the feelings of the other RPers, please.

Language Policy:
Swearing happens, indeed it does. But it is quite doubtful that this world uses many popular slang swear words, so let's leave out the F-word and definitely no racial slurs. Be creative with these, though! Back then, it might've been a completely different word they used as a swear, so make things up that suit your character!

Mature Content Policy:
No sex. Period. Kissing, yes; flirting, fine; seductiveness; alright. But No sex. This is a place for you to live out adventurous fantasies, not sexual ones. Thanks.

Character Stuff:
Post a biography before RPing. For those of you who are used to RPing, No God-modding of any sort, no mary-sues, no furry-fetishes.

Items and Such:
No lasers, guns (of any kind), modern or futuristic anything. Your character is not a time-traveler. This is a world of swords and crossbows and crude mechanics. If it uses an engine, it's too advanced for Tirerion.

And remember

No Spamming

No Harassing

No Abuse

Don't think we won't kick your butt off of here; we will.

If you have any problems, questions, or concerns, contact an Admin - we are here to help, and to make sure these rules are not broken!
